The only restrictions on entering into the Open Class
competition is that it must be an amateur class robot, commercial robots
are not allowed. Hacked toys are not considered commercial and are therefor
acceptable. If you are unsure about qualification, ask one of the RoboMaxx
Staff.
Open Class robots will be evaluated by judges throughout
Day One of the event. Highest ranking robots
will be required to demonstrate to the public on Day
Two and winners will be proclaimed at approximately 3:00pm. This
contest will be based on the same type rules as a Miss America pageant.
Entrants will be required to present a paper
describing what their robot was designed to do, what materials went
into the construction, etc...
The robot will be judged on:
* How well it carries out the tasks described on the paper
* The ingenuity involved in its construction
* The creativity of its design
* Its originality
* Its potential usefulness
* and to a lesser degree on its looks.
There will be at least three judges who will score each
robot.
On Day One, Open Class robots will be evaluated and scored
by the appointed judges. Judges will give the robot a score of 0 to
5 in each categories mentioned above. At the end of Day One the finalists
will be announced and those entrants will be expected to demonstrate
their bots in a public arena around 1:30 on Day Two in order from the
least points to most points accumulated on the previous day.
Each contestant will be given 2 minutes to set the stage,
and 5 minutes to perform the demo. When the contestant is ready, they
will describe their robots to the crowd, and then they will be asked
to turn their robot on and let it prove itself. Robots will be
judged in the same manor as Day One, the robot with the highest combined
score will be the winner.
Each contestant will be required to supply his/her own environment
for the demo if required. The area provided will be an 8' x 8' square
floor space.
Robots may not cause damage to surrounding area, and must
be safe to be viewed by a close proximity audience.
