RoboMaxx Information

3Kg Sumo
There is a lot of debate about official rules concerning Sumo robot
wrestling. The RoboMaxx commitee understands that the 3Kg
Sumo rules are set by the official Japanese Sumo competition held
world wide. 3Kg at RoboMaxx will play by those rules to the best
of our ability. However, the surface will not be made from Cold rolled
steel since it was nearly imposible to obtain. We will be using Hot
rolled steel instead. All other Japanese rules will be followed for the
3Kg class.

Mini Sumo
Here's were things get a little hot, Southern Oregon Robotics Society
holds to the origional Bill Harrison Mini Sumo rules. We do NOT
allow suction or magnetic devices for added traction. Wheels are
considered sticky if a robot picks up a 3" x 5" recipe card and holds it
for longer than 1 second. If you are worried that it won't pass this test
then we recomend that you do not push it to these limits.
We are slightly less strict on beginner Mini Sumo competitors since
they are still developing their skills.
How to determine wether you are a beginner or not: This year
RoboMaxx will be implementing a new way of determining what
class you can enter. Any Mini Sumo can enter the Pro Class.
Mini Sumo builders that have won first, second, or third place,
at any event, with any mini sumo robot, three times or more is
automatically forced to go Pro. This is the only legal determining
factor that we enforce. However, as the entrant you're expected
to show some discretion. If you think you, as the builder, have a
little higher skill level than the others in the biginner class, then
we ask that you move your robot into the Pro class. Builders with
advanced tools such as, Lathe, Mill, etc. should know that they have
an advantage over most competitors and belong in the Pro Class.
We don't have a problem with adults helping their kids build robots,
but again we expect that you use the same discretion as mentioned
above.

Micro Sumo
At RoboMaxx we chose to accept the rules as stated by the
Portland Robotics Society for Micro Sumo robots. In order to
keep the contest fair we will be making extra efforts to ensure
that all robots are within size and weight restrictions.

Nano Sumo
RoboMaxx is proud to be the first event to host the Nano Sumo
robot competition! This is a brand new competition and is still
being defined. I think it's fair to say that everyone expects Nano's
to be half the size of a Micro since that has been the trend with the
other Sumo Classes. In keeping with the trend, RoboMaxx committee
members are allowing for 2.5cm Nano's. The rules need to be strict
for several reasons in order to kick off this new class of robot. We
will not be accepting robots that are over the 2.5cm regulation. It is
recommended that you set your goals for a 2cm Nano, then if it's
over you'll still be ok.

All Sumo's
Here is what you can expect from a sumo competition at RoboMaxx.
Rather than taking up hours of time during registration, we will be
weighing and sizing only winning robots after each match. If the winning
robot is over weight or too big, then the match will go to the opponent
automatically, and that robot will be weighed. All competitions are
double elimination which means you must loose twice to be out of
the competition. This year we will be using a digital scale and plexiglass
boxes to measure every winner. All robots must have a name, and
it must be located somewhere on the robot durring competitions.
